Lecturer and researcher of Educational Technology in the Institute of Education at University of Minho, Portugal.
His academic qualifications include a graduation in Visual Literacy (1991), a MSc in Education, specialisation in Educational Technology (2002), and a PhD in Education, specialisation in Educational Technology (2009). Currently, in a postdoctoral research in Education Sciences.
José is an experienced lecturer and researcher, particularly in online methodologies, as his Curriculum Vitæ can confirm. He received his PhD with a thesis about Online Education. He designed, developed and implemented a virtual learning environment (VLE) with resources (photos, videos, audios, animations, manuscript) to support a Flipped Approach to Online Teaching and Learning, a form of blended learning.
Teaching interests include understanding the opportunities to enhance teaching and learning processes of postgraduate students through technology. Jose has been developing teaching and supervision activities in Master and Doctoral Programs in Educational Technology, exploring innovative pedagogical practices using technology: blended learning, flipped learning, gamification, game-based learning, mobile learning, digital storytelling.
Research interests include Design-based research, Online learning, Technology-enhanced learning and Usability. José is the author or co-author of more than 130 peer-reviewed papers on technology integration in education (face-to-face or online).
José is an internal integrated researcher at Research Centre in Education (CIEd) and member of the research group ‘Technology, Multiliteracies and Curriculum’. CIEd is hosted at the Institute of Education, University of Minho, Campus of Gualtar, Portugal. He is also researcher at Centro ALGORITMI, a research unit of the School of Engineering, University of Minho, Campus of Azurém, Portugal. Centro ALGORITMI develops R&D activity in Information and Communications Technology and Electronics (ICT&E) (cf. algoritmi.uminho.pt). At ALGORITMI José is a member of the Computer Communications and Pervasive Media (CCPM) R&D Line, developing his research in the engageLab R&D Group.
